School Theme: The Beatitudes

The Beatitudes Are the Attitudes of Christ. Live Them! This is the theme at Sacred Heart of Jesus School for the 2003-2004 school year. Students and teachers will be focusing special attention on a different beatitude each month. Through classroom activities and discussions, students will gain a clearer understanding of the beatitudes and of how they can better live them out in their own life.

Most people are familiar with the Ten Commandments and the sins we are directed to avoid. Jesus’ message is that observance of the commandments is really the minimum we can do. It is not enough not to sin. We must take a stand and do something.

In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus spells out for us the Christian way of life and challenges us to take on these attitudes in our relationship with God and our neighbor. Our faith is not private, but is meant to be lived out in the world. It should touch all that we do and everyone that we meet. While living out the beatitudes will take commitment and courage, Jesus promises us that the hardships we endure in this life will be rewarded in heaven.
