Acclaimed Musician Visits SHS
On September 22nd, Alfredo Rolando Ortiz,
an internationally acclaimed South American harpist, performed
a multicultural repertoire of music including folk, classical,
and popular music. Mr. Ortiz is the winner of a Gold Record
in South America, lectures at many universities, and is the
author of several books and compositions. Mr. Ortiz interacted
with students, telling stories of his life as a young child
in Cuba and how the harp helped him pay his way through medical
school in South America. He even called a couple students
to the stage to let them try their hand at playing the harp.
After the presentation, he visited with students and autographed
the third grade Share the Music textbooks, in which
his career is highlighted. Ortiz will be performing at the
Carlson Center at Johnson County Community College this weekend.
