8th Graders Present Moral
Issues
Abortion, gluttony, AIDS in Africa, gun
control, the death penalty…these subjects are not frequently
the focus of 8th grade conversations, but as of the last two
months, Sacred Heart 8th graders have become quite well-versed
on them.
Students recently completed their 8th grade
research projects which explored moral issues. Each student
chose a moral issue on which to focus his/her research. In
religion class, they explored the concept of morality and
how the Catholic Church views their selected issues. Students
then headed to the library to research their topics. Once
the research was complete, students wrote a formal paper for
English class outlining their stance on the issue. Students
then utilized technology skills to create a Power Point Presentation
on their topics. Finally, students delivered the presentations
to the entire middle school. Parents were invited, and all
were encouraged to ask questions. During this project, students
had the opportunity to formulate, articulate, and defend their
views on important issues within the Catholic faith.
Congratulations to the 8th grade for rising
to the challenge.
