Classroom News
Religion: Today we took an essay test over our Advent Unit. We will continue to discuss the importance of the season as we prepare for the coming of Christ. Math: Please continue to work on basic multiplication facts, memorization of these will help with division! Social Studies: We began learning our regions. We have started with the North East. We will continue learning about these states, their locations and capitals. Check out http://www.pibmug.com/files/map_test.swf This is a great state location game web site. Practicing this game now will make learning state locations a breeze this year!
Science: We have been working on our Earthworks Unit to prepare for our field trip in January. The students learned about habitats and what living these need to survive in their habitats. We also worked with the 3rd grade to create a large food web in front of the school. We will continue to do projects and experiments to learn how our earth works!
Accelerated Reader: Students have decided their goals for the quarter and have begun taking AR quizzes. They should be reading 20 minutes every night to help them achieve their goals! Goals are due Wednesday, Dec. 19th. English/Reading: We will begin reading the novel The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Students will be in Lit Circles for this novel. Each student will be required to read a chapter and write answers to questions for this novel. In the back of the Lit. Circle packet are questions, characters and vocabulary the students should be completing as they read the book. We remind them at each Lit. Circle meeting, but I have noticed some students have not started these. The Lit. Circle packets are due Wednesday, Dec. 12th and the test will be Friday, Dec. 14th. Specialty Project: Please keep due dates in mind. Our next due date is December 11th. This is an article review about their topic. Most of the students have found their article on the SIRS Web site during computer class. Your child has all due dates in their Agendas. Also, due dates and rubrics can be found on the web site. Remember to keep track of any resource used as students will need this information at the end of the year for the reference page. Please check the rubric page for complete details of expectations.
Please remember, if you have any questions or concerns, let me know. Either email, call or send a note with your child so we can discuss. Thank you to those of you have donated to our class treasure box! We are set for a while!! Have a great week, Mrs. Wranosky
